Spectacled Flowerpecker photographed again!

The yet undescribed Spectacled Flowerpecker was photographed again in Brunei Darussalam in early August 2016 by Ms. Hanyrol H. Ahmad Sah (either on 2nd or 4th, she could not be sure as her camera developed a problem after she exposed it in the rain to photograph some rare encounter, now she needs to regularly reset the date in her camera), below is her account of the encounter.

Super Rarities recorded in Matananni

Dave Bakewell,Yann Muzika and Mike Turnbull visited Matananni on 22nd and 23rd of October 2015. They recorded a Willow Warbler Phylloscopus trochilus, which is a super rare bird in this part of the world, as it normally winters in Africa.

This makes it a first Malaysian and Bornean record, congratulations to Dave Bakewell, who already has a number of national first under his belt.

Apart from this superstar bird, they further recorded a very rare Black-headed Bunting Embriza melanocephala which so far has only about five records from Borneo.

First photographic record of Kamchatka Leaf Warbler in Borneo

Sabah based seasoned birders CK Leong and Gary Albert photographed a phylloscopus warbler in Borneo Highland Resort in Sarawak on 2nd November 2015, the bird's vocalization matches those of Phylloscopus examinandus, making this the first record in Borneo since its split from Arctic Warbler (Phylloscopus borealis).

Borneo Big Day - 9th May 2015

9th May 2015 was The Cornell Lab's Global Big Day, see link below.

In conjunction with this global event, Mr Cede Prudante, president of Sandakan Borneo Bird Club, and Mr. Ron Pudin initiated the Borneo Big Day with the objective of counting as many species of bird as possible in and around Borneo.

The Borneo Big Day event is historic as birders from all three countries on the island of Borneo participated.

Notably, the team in Bukit Padang, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, appeared on local television with some of the participants interviewed in front of camera.
