Stork-billed Kingfisher

Latin Name : Pelargopsis capensis

Site Name : Sepilok

Photographer : SINGH HSS, Amar

Date : 2016-05-02

Notes : The extremely hot and dry weather for past 2 months has dried up all the smaller streams in the forest reserves. Hence finding kingfishers has been difficult. Decided to try a drain at the fringe of the forest reserve and spotted this beautiful Stork-billed Kingfisher. Davison (1999, The Birds of Borneo by B. E. Smythies, 4th edition) states that the bird is a common resident at rivers and tidal creeks but Phillipps (2014, Phillipps' Field Guide to the Birds of Borneo. 3rd Edition) suggest that it is now ‘generally scarce’.
