Oriental Magpie-robin

Latin Name : Copsychus saularis

Site Name : Sibu

Photographer : SINGH HSS, Amar

Date : 2012-06-07

Notes : Remarks
There is some variation in subspecies of Oriental Magpie-robins.
The Internet Bird Collection (http://ibc.lynxeds.com/species/oriental-magpie-robin-copsychus-saularis) suggests three basic groups: “nominate group” (white belly, white in tail), “amoenus group” (black belly, white in tail), and “mindanensis group” (white belly, black tail).
The Oriental Magpie Robin in the north of the island of Borneo is the subspecies C.s. adamsi and C.s.pluto with a black belly with white in the tail.
In Peninsular Malaysia we have the C.s. saularis and C.s. musicus with a white belly and white in the tail.
The south of the of the island of Borneo (Sarawak, where these birds were photographed) has the C.s. problematicus - an intergrade between musicus and pluto.
These birds I photographed had a white belly and white in tail, more like the C.s. musicus.
The status of some of these subspecies are disputed.
I notice that the song of these birds varies with location. A video of an adult male in Sibu: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YU4hF8FOqNc
