Eurasian Tree Sparrow

Latin Name : Passer montanus

Site Name : Kuching

Photographer : SINGH HSS, Amar

Date : 2012-09-08

Notes : First noted to have arrived in Borneo in 1929 and more evident by the 1960s. Still not as common as the in the Peninsular.

Some doubt a as to the sub-species here.Initially thought to be P. m. saturates. But now considered a mixture from P. m. saturates, P. m. dilutus and P. m. malaccensis (Peninsular). Most likely very similar to P. m. malaccensis.

P. m. saturates is deeper brown and has a larger bill. P. m. dilutes is paler, with sandy-brown upperparts. P. m. malaccensis, is a dark race, like P. m. saturatus, but is smaller and more heavily streaked on its upper parts.
