Dark-necked Tailorbird

Latin Name : Orthotomus atrogularis

Site Name : Sepilok

Photographer : SINGH HSS, Amar

Date : 2016-05-01

Notes : The least common of the tailorbirds in Borneo. Saw a very confident male on the trail in primary forest. O. a. humphreysi in north-east Borneo is quite different from O. a. atrogularis that occurs in Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra and the rest of Borneo. Almost thought I was seeing a Mountain Tailorbird as the yellow of the underparts is extensive. Said to have more extensive black on breast but this male did not show it. It had a partner nearby and behaved as an adult.
Phillipps (2014) states that the way to differentiate the 3 lowland Tailorbird sin Borneo is to look at the tail colour – greenish in the Dark-necked Tailorbird.
